Avera-Maria-Santo-2

In an open letter, Avera Maria Santo, a 22-year-old U.S. Catholic, pleads for the synod fathers to uphold Church teaching on sexuality.

“My dear bishops, there is no one on this earth that isn’t called to a life of chastity; that includes my brothers and sisters who experience same-sex attractions. This is not because the Church is oppressive and wants us to be miserable and passively submissive to her, but because each and every one of us is invited to enter into the divine life of our Creator, a life where no sin can remain.

The Catechism states, in Paragraph 2331, that “God is love, and in himself he lives a mystery of personal loving communion. Creating the human race in his own image … God inscribed in the humanity of man and woman the vocation, and thus the capacity and responsibility, of love and communion.”

Not only should I be reminded that, as a Christian, I am called to love as Christ loved us, but I also have the capacity to do so. I am capable of authentic love!

Telling me that my cross of same-sex attraction is too heavy for me to love as Christ calls me to is not just degrading; it is also a lie. God did not abandon me when man first sinned in the beginning, and he will not abandon me now.

He has called me, and each and every one of us, to himself, and I intend to return back to him, no matter how burdensome my cross may be.

Like Christ remembered me from the cross, I pray that you would remember me, and my brothers and sisters like me, dear bishops, as you pray about and discuss how to help young people in matters of faith and vocation, especially in regards to the topic of homosexuality.

Please remember that, as St. Thérèse the Little Flower, a dear patron of mine, so greatly put it, “My vocation is to love.”

“Juan Carlos, that you are gay doesn’t matter,” Francis reportedly told clerical sexual abuse survivor Juan Carlos Cruz. “God made you like this and loves you like this and it doesn’t matter to me. The pope loves you like this, you have to be happy with who you are.”

Cruz is one of three victims of Father Fernando Karadima who were in Rome in late April for a weekend meeting with Francis. His comments came in an interview with Spanish daily El Pais.”

“Your thoughts on this.

Fr. Gerald Murray – Well, Raymond, what you said earlier is now extending to a third topic, with divorce and remarriage, contraception and now homosexual activity. He wants us to bless sodomy. He wants the Catholic Church to say to two people who are sodomizing each other, you’re doing something that is pleasing in the sight of God and we want God to bless, we want God to favor this type of activity. This is quite simply a statement of fact – this is a total rejection of Catholic doctrine on the immorality of homosexual activity. For this Bishop to say that is a major scandal. He should repent of it and turn away from it, because he is leading people into sin.

I do work with Courage from time to time, which is the apostolate that helps Catholics with same-sex attraction live virtuous lives. When they wake up and turn on their computer in the morning and read this kind of news – its an insult to them. Its an insult to them, to say: oh, yeah look, the bad behavior that we told you to stop, well, it’s pretty good according to the German Bishop. Ordinary people should not be subjected to bishops contradicting Catholic teaching. This is, if I seem angry because I am, this is infuriating. A shepherd is sent out to lead the sheep to the pure water of Catholic truth. And this man is saying immoral activity should be blessed. He needs to repent of that teaching.

On a personal note – What Fr. Murray so explicitly and honestly expressed here is the truth. Its uncomfortable and unpleasant for some to hear, but it must be said…by someone.”

“1. Pray

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – Thess. 5:16-18

Start every morning with a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the gift of your Son. Ask God to keep him safe from harm. Throughout the day, even if they seem insignificant, offer up little prayers, hardships and sacrifices to the Lord for your son’s protection. Remain joyful in everything you do. Many young men who identify as “gay,” in general, retain very negative perceptions of their fathers as well as Christianity, particularly Catholicism; in addition, these two forces are often seen as either incredibly harsh and condemning or all-accepting and tolerant. Therefore, the religious man can only be one of two things: an ally or an enemy. You must be neither, but a father. In this regard, you must pray for determination, empathy and prudence. This is sometimes a difficult balancing act that requires humility through supplication to God’s will; Bishop Athanasius Schneider stated this very well, when he said: “Genuine understanding and compassion” for a person’s true good certainly does not result “from concealing or weakening moral truth.”

“By my late-teens, I didn’t care what any one thought of me; including my father. As my attitude changed, so did my appearance. I was simultaneously trying to shock, gain attention, and test the loyalty of those closest to me. Not surprisingly, my father wasn’t pleased. His continued distance and silence signaled to me what I wanted to know. However, I pushed a little further. Finally, my father had to speak-up and he said what needed to be said. Of course, I didn’t take it well; even objective criticism, with my best interest at heart, I regarded as a personal attack. It was inevitable. Because this battle was never just about me; and it wasn’t about a scared kid against a homophobic world in the age of AIDS; and it wasn’t about finding myself in the arms of another man; it was always about me and my father. When I would curse him, I subconsciously believed that he was the one who sent me into every gay bar, bathhouse and sex dungeon. I wasn’t ashamed of who I was or what I did, but I hated him for it. Maybe he wasn’t the father I wanted – or needed; maybe he didn’t give me the attention I wanted – or needed. But when all seemed lost, when it mattered most – he did the right thing. Looking back, it’s the ultimate irony that through his prayers – I was saved.”

“In 2008 I founded an organization called the Brothers of Padre Pio in order to bring hope to people when we are faced with a sometimes harsh world. I work on the streets of Pasadena and Los Angeles sharing my story as an example of the power of unshakeable faith.

I am often asked, “Would you do anything different in your life if you had the chance?” I always answer with an unequivocal ,”no.” In return I ask, “If you could do anything different in your life, what would it be?” Most ponder the question and recite a litany of regrets and “if I only…”

In 2007 I was diagnosed with AIDS. I do not regret having AIDS, nor do I regret that I am gay and that my lifestyle was unacceptable to the church. For most of my life I felt like an outcast but never have I felt that I was not loved by God. At a young age, I questioned my sexuality and in turn my faith was questioned and I was considered “wrong” for allowing and accepting the truth of who I am. Although I strayed from the church my heart was always aligned with God and our Beloved Virgin Mary.

For 25 years I was in relationship with my best friend, Robert. We still live together but we are no longer intimate. It was the perceived rejection by others that often drove me to lose myself in alcohol and drug use. I will never forget the day it was confirmed that I had contracted the AIDS virus. It was surreal.  I remember thinking that I wanted to die; but that was not meant to be. At least not yet.”

“The mainstream media has done an effective job of brainwashing society”

“In pulling together the recent reports on transgender abuse of children, reparative therapy and the existence of a massive fraud in perpetrating the born-that-way myth, nearly all of the sources Church Militant spoke with agreed that there is a vast conspiracy to manipulate our legal system with legislation to ensure “civil rights” for gays through bogus lawsuits, propaganda and false media reports.

In these series of reports, Church Militant exposed just the tip of the iceberg of this vast network. We discovered coordinated attacks on children and families by the “Big Gay Hate Machine,” a phrase coined by Austin Ruse at Breitbart. Some of our sources asked for anonymity for fear of reprisals. Others are used to the harassment and even death threats and only want the truth exposed.

Arthur Goldberg of Funding Morality.com commented, “The mainstream media has done an effective job of brainwashing society.”

Living the Truth the Church Teaches

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. —Soren Kierkegaard. "...truth is true even if nobody believes it, and falsehood is false even if everybody believes it. That is why truth does not yield to opinion, fashion, numbers, office, or sincerity--it is simply true and that is the end of it" - Os Guinness, Time for Truth, pg.39. “He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust to God’s providence to lead him aright.” - Blaise Pascal. "There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily" – George Washington letter to Edmund Randolph — 1795. We live in a “post-truth” world. According to the dictionary, “post-truth” means, “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” Simply put, we now live in a culture that seems to value experience and emotion more than truth. Truth will never go away no matter how hard one might wish. Going beyond the MSM idealogical opinion/bias and their low information tabloid reality show news with a distractional superficial focus on entertainment, sensationalism, emotionalism and activist reporting – this blogs goal is to, in some small way, put a plug in the broken dam of truth and save as many as possible from the consequences—temporal and eternal. "The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it." – George Orwell “There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” ― Soren Kierkegaard
