Ahead of Historic Sainthood Mass, Pope Francis Speaks Out Against AbortionThe big story this weekend was Pope Francis’ elevation of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II to sainthood. The “four-pope mass” was noteworthy not only because two popes (John XXIII and John Paul II) had never been canonized at the same time, but also because two living popes (Francis and the papal emeritus Benedict XVI) had never been present for a canonization. They were joined by nearly a million other people in Vatican City.

The Holy See also sought to dispel the public curiosity about the canonization of two men who were considered to be dogmatically very different; the “liberal” Pope John XXIII and the “conservative” John Paul II.

“They were priests, bishops and popes of the 20th century. They lived through the tragic events of that century, but they were not overwhelmed by them. For them, God was more powerful; faith was more powerful.”

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Father James Martin offered that the biographical differences between major figures in the history of the church are part of what made their spiritual quests compelling.

Consider how the personalities of some of the most notable men and women in the church led them to live out their calls. St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, gave up a military career to follow God; St. Joan of Arc began one. Dorothy Day, the co-founder of the Catholic Worker movement, started a newspaper, while St. Bernadette Soubirous, the visionary of Lourdes, shrank in horror from the idea of her story ever being published. St. Thomas Aquinas spent his life surrounded by books, while St. Francis of Assisi instructed his friars not to own even one lest they become too proud.”

Ahead of the weekend’s event, Pope Francis showed glimpses of that complexity on Friday, when he made a seemingly rare statement to a group of African bishops in which he strongly condemned abortion.

Abortion compounds the grief of many women who now carry with them deep physical and spiritual wounds after succumbing to the pressures of a secular culture which devalues God’s gift of sexuality and the right to life of the unborn.”

Pope Francis has made a habit of focusing on poverty and social inequality rather than abortion, which remains a divisive issue both within and beyond the Catholic church. Two weeks before, he had called abortion “an unspeakable crime” during a speech to an Italian anti-abortion group.

40--HispnicsWSigns
NYC Mob to Descend on EMC LifeSavers! Help!
Saturday, October 27th, 2012
Dear Holly,

NY City’s Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the manager of Dr. Emily’s abortion mill, and the usual suspects from Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice, NOW, the NYCLU and assorted leftovers from Occupy Wall Street, began “training” a goon squad of close to 75 so-called “escorts” (I prefer “deathscorts”) this weekend in New York City.

Starting next Saturday, they will fan out at abortion mills across NYC, after the flood waters recede, from the “Frankenstorm” barreling up the East Coast right now.

Their plan is to intimidate EMC FrontLine pro-life prayer and counseling teams on Saturdays at 560 Southern Blvd. in the South Bronx, for two straight months, to block our mobile clinic team from delivering our offers of free alternatives, free ultrasounds and real help.

Watch this TV coverage with my comments from the South Bronx yesterday.

Yes, this street gang is accusing our Expectant Mother Care’s- EMC FrontLine sidewalk counselors and prayer partners of “hostile and intimidating” actions against women. They call our presence on the public streets “potentially dangerous” and describe our staff and volunteers as “a gauntlet of vicious bullies who scream misogynist and racist epithets.”

If you’re asking: Are they kidding?  … If you’re asking: What planet are they on? They think they can scare us off, this Halloweentime, because they’re the abortion industry’s best friends in NYC.

They believe you and I don’t have the resolve and resources to stop them… but with your help, we can stop them! Because, YOU have proven that despite the odds we can save lives amidst opposition, and keep volunteers and trained staff coming back with zeal, at 7:30am on week after week, month after month, year after year.

Of course, they’re accusations are LIES!  There has never once been a single charge of harassment against EMC FrontLine counselors that has truly concerned the police. Not one. And, we have not had a single arrest of a team member since we began outdoor action in 2007.

We man no gauntlet, there is no screaming. There’s no hostility. There’s no danger. There is only prayer, free ultrasounds and giving mothers on the brink of abortion, a second chance.

And during our TENTH 40 Days for Life campaign, we have achieved, so far, 26 turnarounds—that’s babies saved —since September 26th. But we average over 500 saves with our mobile outreach per year.

“Dr. Emily’s,” Planned Parenthood and other abortionists here in the belly of the beast are driven crazy by every lost abortion sale.

So their gang of goons training for true harassment began this weekend, and will next week on, aim to stop our saves, so we are getting ready for their pushing, crowding, blocking, threats, vileness and pure hostile intimidation.

So what’s really going on here? Why are they picking on us and making up these wild stories? I’ll tell you why: We’re costing the abortion clinics tens of thousands of dollars of blood money and they’re furious about it! For instance this week, our counselors turned around a mother at Dr. Emily’s planning an abortion at 24 weeks.

In cash, that’s a $1,700 loss for Dr. Emily’s, but with a Medicaid or private insurance abortion rate abortion it’s certainly a loss of thousands of dollars more.

Dr. Emily’s, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and NOW will spend any amount of money to stop us from having an effect on their abortion businesses’ “bottom-line.”

EMC’s bottom line is that it costs us on average $500 to save a baby, and with your gift right now, you help us make that happen. We save one baby every 75 minutes, each work day.

Make no mistake, what folks like us call the murder of innocent life, they call their “bottom line,” but whatever they may wish to call it, we need your help to cut into their “cash cow.”

In front of “Dr. Emily’s clinic,” EMC Frontline staffs a year round crew of four to eight pro-lifers, four days a week, with our mobile ultrasound unit.  (This hard work is not for everyone, and we must replenish our interns throughout the year.)

But clearly, we’re not some army of screaming, placard-waving protestors, like the city officials and their cronies would have you think. It’s a handful, and sometimes medium size group, of prayerful counselors with brochures, and a trusty lady ultrasound technician, and bus driver who protects us.

But since we started out there seven years ago, the killing business in that facility has plummeted by half. We get two to three turnarounds a day (2.5 avg./day x 4 days = 10/week,) with late-term abortions they do (up to 24 weeks, or six months) priced at $1,700, we’re costing them about conservatively about $28,000 a month in lost abortion business (10 saves x $750 per average abortion = $28,000.)

Those dollars lost amount to precious lives saved. That’s all because of you, and your support that keeps us going. And these abortionists and their backers are seething about what you and our staff are doing. You can save lives via PayPal, credit card, or ECheck.

We’ve fought off two efforts to eliminate our outside work, two so called NYC “clinic access bill” in the last decade, and now Local Law #17 to cripple our indoor pregnancy centers, still in federal court. But because these legal maneuvers haven’t shut us down yet, viola their latest manuveur.

We need to band together now more than ever. These officials have it in for us and the babies we’re trying to save. But we will fight until we can’t fight any more, because their lives are worth it.

Are you still on this with me? Are we going to do this together, for the long haul?

Because that’s what it takes, the long-term presence, the religious regularity of our volunteers, staff, interns, our mobile sonogram unit. Every day, helping, witnessing, proclaiming life. Showing living babies in their mothers womb. It’s working.

Every month it takes me about $84,000 to pay the insurance on the van, generator fuel, staff, rent, and utilities advertising and intern expenses and training to fund our life-saving at 12 life centers and abortion sites. We’re running lean, and every month I’m praying and struggling to cover the bills. And the City fights me all the way as they seek to preserve the Abortion Capital of America title and increase the 40% abortion rate.

Will you please help me today with an urgent gift of $50 or $100 or $500, the cost of saving one baby every hour and a quarter, or even $1,000 to save two babies so we can stay in the fight for these coming two months?

We can’t stop the goon squads. But we sure can’t let them stop us.

Yours for Life on the FrontLines.

P.S. You and I can outlast the pro-abort hordes descending on our humble but persistent crew at Dr. Emily’s abortion mill in the South Bronx. It takes us $500 to save each life at EMC sites, and we are at over 40,000 saves as we complete the first month of our 28th year. Your support right now, will show this crowd of thugs that we will not be intimidated and we will not go away, because every Life is worth saving.
