We at Catholic Spirit Radio, a 501-c-3 not-for-profit organization, recognize the urgent need to expand our outreach, especially in light of today’s broad opposition to traditional Judeo-Christian culture. Broadcasting in McLean County, IL, over radio frequencies 89.5 FM and 92.5 FM, we have been serving the public 24/7 since 2011 with the permission of Bishop Daniel Jenky.

We now have the opportunity to expand our potential listening audience by an additional 850,000, thereby expanding our audience to about one million people. To do so, we need to purchase two additional radio stations that are now available to us at a fraction of their original cost. One is in north-central Illinois and the other in south-central Illinois.

Our station broadcasts and streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It airs EWTN, the Global Catholic Network, and locally-produced programs that are instructive, entertaining, inviting, and inspiring. Our programming is in accord with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and complements the messages provided in our local parishes and ministries.

Catholic radio can make a difference in the lives of those who listen. In a recent survey of Catholic radio listeners about the benefits of our programming, 43% said we helped to strengthen their marriages and several individuals reported how we helped them avoid a contemplated suicide. 68% of Catholic listeners reported how our programming helped them better understand the teachings of the Catholic Church. Because of the diversity of our morally uplifting programming, our listening audience includes not only Catholics but also non-Catholic Christians, the unchurched, non-Christians, and even non-believers. In fact, 50% of our listeners are believed to be non-Catholic.

No additional staff will be required following the acquisitions of these two radio stations. The stations will be operated remotely from the studios at our present facility in Normal, Illinois. Any additional operating expense is expected to be nominal and all of our staff members are volunteers.

We seek to immediately raise about $175,000 and subsequently raise an additional $100,000 broken down as follows: (1) Purchase an FM station in north-central Illinois that needs tower repositioning and the creation of an uplink/downlink network for a total cost of about $35,000. (2) Purchase an AM/FM station in south-central Illinois at a cost of around $200,000 of which $100,000 is a required down payment with the balance paid out over the next year. We also need to acquire a higher-power (10kW) AM transmission license ($10,000), upgrade the facilities, and acquire additional equipment (about $30,000).

Although approved by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, we do not receive any funding from them. The station always has been listener-supported. We are happy to send donors our 2017-2018 Financial Report. Our website is http://www.catholicspiritradio.com

Please help us reach a larger audience than ever before. Thank you for considering our request.
